As chair of the Division of Business and Management at Keuka College, Megan Lawson Clark is responsible for shaping our industry-responsive curriculum and student-centered culture. She earned her MBA from SUNY Oswego, her MA in Design from Syracuse University, and her BA in Fashion Design from Dominican University. Prior to her academic career, she worked in visual and retail management for major national brands, and she expertly integrates that industry experience into her research and classroom instruction. Prof. Clark’s current courses include Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management. She also serves as an advisor to Management students engaged in hands-on learning experiences.

The BSM program’s streamlined format enables busy professionals to take one or two courses at a time and finish in about two years, depending on the number of credits transferred. Choose from a variety of 7- to 14-week courses.
An introduction to legal principles and their relationships to business organizations. Representative topics include the constitutional authority to regulate business, consumer law, employment and labor relations law, torts and crimes related to business, and intellectual property. A substantial part of the course covers contract law and commercial paper. Cases from New York law are used extensively to assist the students in understanding the everyday applications of the law.
An examination of contemporary business institutions and their relationship to society. Topics include historical antecedents, basis of the American enterprise system, functional areas of business, and principles of management.
National income analysis; aggregate demand and supply of goods and services, aggregate investment and savings, and equilibrium in the national economy. Fiscal policy, money, banking, and monetary policy.
An introduction to marketing. Topics covered include marketing’s pervasive growth, marketing management, planning, implementation and control. The student is introduced to many aspects of marketing, more specifically consumer behavior, retailing, public relations, Internet marketing, and Social media marketing. Attention is focused on marketing’s ongoing evolution amid emerging technologies in a global context.
This course will explore price theory and its application to the factors of production, and the concept of elasticity of supply and demand. The course will also cover the relationship of organizations to production, costs, markets, pricing, and alternative economic systems. International trade and monetary policy will also be explained.
Aspects of the human resources function operable in business organizations; analysis of employment personnel testing, job classification, wage and salary administration, and performance evaluation; overview of labor relations in American business.
Financial accounting deals with the preparation, presentation, and analysis of financial statements. The course involves the study of the terminology and conceptual framework underlying the measurement, processing, and communication of financial information to external and internal users. The course is required of all business and management majors, but is open to any student with an interest in learning this essential part of the language of business.
Management accounting is the timely generation of financial information in an easily understandable format for use in internal decision making. The course stresses the importance and usefulness of relevant accounting information in short- and long-term planning, cost-control, quality assessment, and decision making.
This course covers the logical and rational design of organizations. There is also a thorough examination of behaviors within the individual and the group, and the effects of those interactions on the organization.
This course introduces the student to the field of information systems and technology. The topics covered in this course will include the following: information systems, hardware and software, social media, data management, data analytics, information security, and the strategic use of information systems. A particular focus of the course will be how technology is applied for competitive advantage, and used to enhance other disciplines such as marketing, accounting, finance, and operations.
An in-depth study of operations and production management, including both theory and current practice. Key topics include operations strategies, product and process design, plant capacity and location, manufacturing technology, quality management, continuous improvement, services operations, project management, supply chain management, and JIT/lean manufacturing. Emphasis is placed on general concepts, current practice, and problem solving.
An analysis of the management concerns associated with small business. This course examines the means of ownership and characteristics of small business, as well as the benefits derived from and problems associated with managing small retail stores, service-oriented organizations, franchises, and manufacturing firms. Problems in marketing, finance, production, accounting, personnel, and insurance associated with the management of a small business are studied and analyzed. Development of a business plan is included.
An examination of the topics of traditional financial management, with an emphasis on working capital management, short-term financing, leverage, capital structure, and discounted cash flow techniques.
This course offers an introduction to the vital issues of international business including economics, political, cultural and operational differences with emphasis on multinational corporate policy and strategy.
This course introduces the student to the process by which strategic business decisions are made and implemented. It also incorporates prior functional course material in an integrated manner as a foundation for successful business management. Formal studies, casework, and a comprehensive term project are used to reinforce learning. This is the capstone course for all majors with the Division of Business and Management.
